Volcanism and Volcanogenic Submarine Sedimentation in the Paleogene Foreland Basins of the Alps: Reassessing the Source-to-Sink Systems with an Actualist View

This work critically reviews the Eocene–Oligocene source-to-sink systems accumulating volcanogenic sequences in basins around Alps. Through years, these have been correlated to plutonic bodies along Periadriatic Fault System, main tectonic lineament running from West East within axis of belt. Starting large amounts data present literature, for first time we an integrated 4D model on evolution sediment pathways that once connected magmatic sources basins. The started develop during Eocene Alps, supplying detritus Adriatic Foredeep. progradation Northern Alpine Foreland Basin is subsequent and probably was favoured by migration North West. At 30 Ma, Apennine Foredeep also fed inputs, but palinspastic reconstruction Foredeep, together with stratigraphic petrographic data, allows us safely exclude Alps as sources. Beyond regional case, this review underlines importance a solid approach system any basin.
